Rear Brake Trouble 02/11
« on: February 24, 2011, 03:16:17 pm »
The left rear brake system is binding and grinding real bad. Upon backing there was a loud pop and grinding noise. I'll rip it apart later and figure out what's up.

I'd like to use 18701 if there are no conflicts.

18701's fine.

*Wonders why everyone always chooses 18701*

Alright, fairly simple fix here. In the back of the brake shoes are pins that look basically like nails. The nails come in from the back, then a spring slides over the "sharp" end, and over that a washer like thing with a slot in it slides over, and twists to hold the springs in place. What happened here is that the washers popped off, and the nails were able to slide out, which caused the shoes to fold in half because of spring tension (kinda like folding a piece of bread in half). That being said, the issue is all taken care of now.

10901 in service.

Wow, that was fast -- no spare, even, since Kyle did your route yesterday. Unless you used 18701 Thursday afternoon.

The issue started Thursday afternoon. I never ended up using the spare because I took off on Friday to stay at base.
