19902 Out of Service

The bus is burning up more oil than it should. I'll run some tests on it, and see where that leads me.

None, I haven't had time with all of the prep work I'm doing on the other buses. I'll stay late tonight and work on it.

Well, I have to get it done before Monday anyway.

Well Blase, I hate to say this but the bus is going to need new rings on one of the pistons. I'm gonna send this over to my lot and have it done priority. It'll be back no later than Sunday evening.

10-4. Figured it would either be valve guide or piston ring related. No biggie, but it will be missed for the first week of school.

It'll be back before Monday morning. I'm putting my guys on it immediately.

The last thing I want is for the kids to get a card with bus 19902 on it, then have a different bus pull up and THEN have 19902 show up later. :P

They get a card with ONLY the route number...the bus number and driver are not mentioned, and students should know that only the route number matters.

They got the engine pulled apart today and have found the problem cylinder. They slipped some new rings on and will put it back together tomorrow.

They found another ring that was ready to fail also. They're not sure why there was so much wear and tear on the rings. It's possible the rings that were put on originally weren't up to par. The engine is back together and they're test driving it this afternoon. It will likely be back on the lot this evening. I'm gonna take a ride with it tonight when it gets back and run it about 30 miles or so to make sure nothing goes wrong.
