Routine maintenance
« on: February 02, 2009, 05:16:39 pm »
Do we have a routing maintenance program? How often are the buses maintained? Do the buses have stickers in them saying "Next service at 100,000 miles or February 2009", and if so, does the driver have to turn in a maintenance request when that time comes?

In real life, we seem to do it by the mileage rather than date.

Kodie is in charge of all bus mechanical issues and inspections. I believe he inspects buses by date rather than mileage. Each bus is inspected annually by the CHP.

Well I do a full inspection monthly, and the DOT comes around every year.. so I think that should be plenty. Should there be an issue such as no windshield washer fluid, bad wiper blades .. whatever.. it is the drivers responsibility to report it. Basically a pre-trip is daily maintenance of a bus in a sense.

Well I'm mainly referring to routine things such as oil changes, tune-ups, new brakes, etc. How often are they? Are there stickers in the bus for next service date/mileage?

All of that is checked upon inspection as well. If I see that the bus is within a couple thousand miles of an oil change, i'll do it then and there to get it over with.

As far as next service date, that is also included in inspections. It isnt tagged on the bus, but in my records (which I have saved on my pc) there is service info. The problem with an RP is that we cant really calculate how many miles a bus is going.. so an oil change every so many miles is tough.
