Crank Case Ventilation Installation
« on: April 22, 2009, 05:53:11 pm »
Each bus in the fleet is going to be having crank case ventilation systems installed.

Here's a little run down of what these do:

"Unlike exhaust emissions, crankcase gases normally escape into the environment through the crankcase vent tube. The ECS CCV system does the following:

A truly closed CCV system which effectively eliminates 100% of crankcase emissions at all times
Improves passenger compartment air quality, which is especially important in all types of buses (school, shuttle, urban, etc.), refuse and municipal fleets
Improves air quality for personnel working in the vicinity of an operating piece of equipment
Reduces fouling in the engine compartment and of charge air coolers, radiators, etc. increasing their efficiency"

Personal, leased or 2007+ buses are exempt from the upgrades. P bus owners may pay to have job done, and I highly suggest it.

Here is the rundown on when these are going to be done. Each bus will take approximately half a day to complete.

How much do each of these units cost? 1. Just wondering how it'll impact our overall (nonexistent) budget. ;D 2. I'd like to have this job done on P016, depending on the cost.

How do they work?

Here is some more information: http://www.airport-int.com/categories/filter-control-systems/an-integrated-approach-to-ccv-closed-crankcase-ventilation-filtration.asp

The cost of each is roughly 1500-2000 on the low end of the spectrum.

Assuming it's $1,800, that means this will cost us $27,000! :o

Wait until The Boss sees this.... You're getting to be very expensive, Kodie. :P ;)

I think I'll be able to pay for this for P016, but as for all P-bus owners, I must wait until the week between bus payments and the next payment after that.

Why do you think I did it before we put a budget in place? lol

It will be well worth it in the long run considering that we will be breathing cleaner air, and the buses will run more efficiently.

Lol the only reason I am suggesting this is because we don't have a budget YET also.

There will be more emission control systems installed later. If possible, we can discuss applying for state grants.

Remember these buses already have better emissions quality than most other states. (Ca regs are tighter)

No...2007 or newer buses do not need this. S10701, 10801, and 10901 will not be retrofitted.

One bus down.. too many to go.

For those of you that get your buses back with the new crank case system, you will smell burning for the first few days. If the burning smell gets very severe pull over and radio me.
