Kodie,
In New York buses corrode faster with road salt. You are used to retiring at an early age. Here that doesn't happen. As proven by many, many, many, MANY districts in the state, our buses CAN run for 25+ years. I am not making this up...each of the 3 districts in my area have at least 2 pre-'86 buses.

Okay I understand that.. my issue is that the bodies are NOT as safe as a bus built in 2000. If you tell me they are, I will find you, torture you, and throw you over Niagara Falls.

No, they are not as safe. 19202 does not have 2 exit doors, amber warning lights, or as high backed seats as newer buses have. The bus still meets safety standards, and can be evacuated in less than 3 minutes using only the side e-door.

So Kodie, you don't think an 1985 Crown's body is stronger than a 2010 C2? The C2 would would crush like a tin can in a collision with a Crown.

My district keeps buses 5 years/95,000 miles. (actually 5 years as a reg. route bus and 1 year as a spare) We just started this plan 5 years ago, so we still have a few over 5 years old. None are over 80.000 miles. We find that retiring a bus when its 6 years old, we get more money when we trade them in. Plus, NYBS pays us 75%(?. I think its a little higher) of what we paid for the bus (when it was new) so using the money we get for the trade-in plus the state aid. I THINK i remember the T/D saying we pay 13,000 dollars for FOUR buses. I'll check with him to verify the numbers again.

This also saves the tax payers because the buses are constantly under warranty, which means the school only pays for wipers, tires, oil changes and service. This GREATLY reduces repair costs.

Why don't you keep P041 and get rid of 19202?

That's an interesting alternative. Do you mean run P041 as a route/sub bus?

10403, anyone? ;D

I just wonder how P041 would fit in to the routes we currently have... plus, I don't remember ever hearing about an IC CE in California.... The 3800 chassis is dreadful as far as maneuverability goes; bus 17 can barely even go halfway around the cul-de-sac without backing up. Even bus 4 makes it around the cul de sac with several feet to spare.

It's not an IC CE, but it's an AmTran conventional in the background of this photo. It's close enough to an IC.

Eric,

Although the 3800 doesn't turn as sharp as a Vision or 3300, it isn't dreadful (that is a strong word....) The 3800 is a very durable, dependable chassis.

Kodie.
I believe we could use on a regular route. Depending upon the mileage. If the mileage is high it could be used as a sub bus. To be perfectly honest, although the T-444-E is a very good engine, it isn't THAT desirable. Arrow won't get very much for the bus. I think it would be a better idea to keep it and use it. Plus, I see that Bryce has caused Arrow to put some money into the bus.... Arrow should at least keep it. use it and recouperate some of the money..... I DID learn something at my internship.... YAY! Mr. T/D would be so proud of me......

After all that poor bus has been through.... It was Jake's bus the two or more times he was allowed here. It was hit by a tree, but Kodie restored the front end to perfect condition. Now the drive shaft's fallen off... that poor bus has been through so much and it'd be terrible for us to get rid of it, because then Jake or one of his cronies could get a hold of it!

I did think of this option, and it has a couple flaws...

First off, IF we do keep P041, we would not get rid of 19202, as it can be fixed still. This would wreck Kodie's plans of renovating some things in the buses and at the yard.
Quote
Arrow won't get very much for the bus
This is not true...we could get at least $35,000 for it

To top this, we don't currently need another route bus. We would have to pay Bryce (even though he isn't here) half the value of the bus. It would also wreck the possibility of getting an International RE soon, or FS65 or HDX (which are currently my top choices for "new" buses).
And finally, the bus isn't realistic...although I may let it slide this time...

I will consider this however...

Kodie, don't read this:

(BTW Don't tell Kodie but there is a bus on A-Z I am seriously looking at for a sub. He won't like it)
